5 Amazing Essential Oils for the Diffuser (+3 Diffuser Blends)
How to Use Essential Oils for the Diffuser, and 3 Supportive Blends You Can Try!
I've gotten a lot of questions from people who are wondering how best to use their essential oil diffuser.
And from some people who have never used a diffuser and aren't sure what to do.
Helping people use essential oils in ways that are effective for natural health, and are still safe, is very important to me. It's why I became an Aromatherapy educator and why I've continued doing this work for over 20 years.
I know that there is a lot of conflicting information online about this topic, and trying to figure out which essential oils for the diffuser you can use might be a little confusing. (And how many drops is the right amount.)
So I am happy to help!
But first, the big question . . . What is an essential oil diffuser?
Diffusers are such a fun way to use essential oils! They freshen the air and make your room smell simply amazing!
You can also use essential oils for the diffuser to get their therapeutic benefits—for example, they can get rid of germs in the air, help ease stress, and even support deep relaxation and sleep.
(I'll give you 3 blends for these purposes in a bit!)
There are different kinds of essential oil diffusers. Today, I'm going to talk about the kind of diffuser that creates cool steam. This is called a steam diffuser.
Steam diffusers come in different sizes, and they have a small reservoir that you can fill with water. After you pour in the water, you can add essential oils. You can watch me do it in this video.
The essential oils for the diffuser that I choose are based on the kind of aroma I like or the benefits I want to create.
I usually diffuse just 6 to 8 drops of essential oil.
It does not take much to fill the room with scent!
Here are 5 essential oils for the diffuser that I have loved from my earliest days as an Aromatherapist and that I continue to adore today.
And here are 3 gorgeous ways to use these essential oils for the diffuser!
1. Reduce Germs
Eucalyptus and Lavender make a great pair when you want to reduce airborne germs in your house.
Eucalyptus has a fresh, bright, clean aroma and is so good at getting rid of germs that I sometimes use it for natural cleaning. Lavender adds its soft floral touch, and (something not everybody knows about Lavender . . .) is also wonderful for reducing germs and boosting immunity.
You're going to love using these two essential oils for the diffuser when someone in your house starts sniffling.
Diffuse 3 or 4 drops of each essential oil.
2. Ease Stress
Do you have a lot "on your plate?"A long to-do list? Or maybe your thoughts just tend to run away with you, and you can't find relaxation?
Time to diffuse some Bergamot and Sweet Orange essential oil!
Diffusing these two warm, bright, sunny citrus essential oils can create feelings of clarity and optimism. Not to mention, anybody who walks into your room will probably pause to take a deep breath and comment on the beautiful scent! Bergamot (which is cold-pressed from the rinds of Bergamot fruits) and Sweet Orange (cold-pressed from Orange rinds) are very inviting, opening essential oils.
Diffuse 3 to 4 drops of each essential oil.
3. Get Some Sleep
Frankincense has been used for hundreds of years (if not longer!) for feeling quiet, calm, and centered. It also has a very unique aroma. It's so unique I almost hesitate to try to describe it, but (here I go . . .) it is balsamic, fresh, and slightly woody with hints of Lemon. The aroma just has to be experienced!
It combines sweetly with Lavender—which happens to be one of the most popular essential oils for sleep. Lavender has a true talent for calming the nervous system and inspiring comfort.
Diffuse 3 to 4 drops of each essential oil.
Those are 3 suggestions to get you started using essential oils for the diffuser, but you can really diffuse any essential oils that you like.
First, decide on your intention for diffusing the oils.
Do you just want something that smells good, or do you want to boost immunity, feel more energized, support your concentration during a project, or even clear sinus congestion?
There are essential oils that can help with all of those things. You have so much room for creativity.
So have fun with your diffuser!
