Navigating life's challenges can be incredibly difficult - especially when a partner develops Alzheimer's. Feelings of powerlessness and insecurity are common, making it essential to find helpful ways to cope with the stress. Aromatherapy has been an invaluable aid for many in relieving emotional turmoil while providing much-needed restful sleep.
Student: Matteo

Client: Mike is a 59 years old male who recently had upsetting news about his wife.
Health: This client is in good physical health but emotionally finds himself dealing with the challenging diagnosis of his wife's Alzheimer’s disease. Unfortunately, this has left him unable to appreciate a peaceful night's sleep - often struggling to drift off and waking up thoroughly exhausted from racing thoughts that prevent him from restful slumber.
Blend Intention: By helping him control his overwhelming mental chatter and actively supporting his nervous system with Aromatherapy strategies, he can gain quality rest to be more capable of managing the daily challenges.

Modality: An inhaler with the essential oils and a linen spray with hydrosol and essential oils

Recipe:

Essential Oils:
10 drops Sweet Marjoram Oil (Origanum marjorana)
8 drops Myrrh Oil (Commiphora guidotti)
3 drops Bergamot Oil (Citrus bergamia)

Carriers:
2 fl oz (60 ml) Lavender hydrosol (Lavandula angustifolia)
3.3 ml Solubol/dispersant

Directions:
To ensure a good night's sleep, the Client should spray their bed linens 5-10 minutes before bed for maximum effectiveness. For added comfort, using an inhaler upon going to bed and if awoken during the night can help promote restful rejuvenation.

For inhaler: Add the essential oils to an inhaler and inhale as needed - especially during the night to help get back to sleep.

Results:
Our client found the lavender hydrosol and essential oils incredibly soothing, using it on his bed linens and spraying it in their bedroom. The calming atmosphere created a secure environment for him and his spouse that allowed them both restful sleep - although he mentioned waking earlier than normal, our inhaler was able to put him back into slumber 50% of the time!
