Diffuser Blend: Essential Oils for Zen
An essential oil zen recipe with oils rich in calming components
Essential oils for Zen can help you relax your mind, finding peace that grounds you in your environment.
You can release stress and worries, settling into the stillness that's always available to you in every moment.
There are different ways to experience Zen. But at its essence, Zen means being present—mindful and connected with yourself and all of life.
Essential oils for Zen help us appreciate the NOW.
The Science of essential oils for Zen
The three essential oils in this diffuser blend contain components that have been researched and shown to have profoundly soothing effects on the nervous system.
The components are:
Linalool
Linalyl acetate
In studies, linalool and linalyl acetate have both been shown to relax the body, as well as the mind.
They work individually. And when they're combined, they create a "synergy," enhancing one another's effects.
Oils rich in linalool and linalyl acetate are often used in recipes to calm anxiety, support deep sleep, release daily stress, and even work the tension out of muscles.

Why plant parts matter
The plant part that an oil comes from imparts its energy to that oil.
For example, a plant's roots anchor it into the earth and provide rich nourishment from the soil.
Essential oils distilled from roots can have a similar effect on us. They help us feel grounded in our environment and connected to ourselves, so we feel secure.
The three essential oils in this zen recipe come from different plant parts.
Bergamot essential oil (Citrus bergamia)
Bergamot is cold-pressed from citrus rinds. A plant's fruit offers nourishment, refreshing our energy and giving us vital nutrients for health. It also offers us a bright, fresh, sunny outlook. Like other fruit oils, Bergamot helps us express ourselves openly and warmly. Citrus oils are especially important for people with chronic low energy or sadness. Bergamot oil can cause phototoxic reactions (such as burning or blistering) when applied topically to the skin. In a diffuser blend, it doesn't pose any of these risks.
Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)
Lavender is distilled from flowers. Flowers allow a plant to attract pollinators. They represent new growth and an expansive relationship with the world.
Humans often use flowers to show affection, calm our hearts, bring beauty to our environments, and open up to more love and compassion.
Distilled from flowers, lavender oil can help you release feelings of fear, resentment, and dissatisfaction. It can help you see the beauty in your life. The presence of lavender in your Zen diffuser blend can also soothe tension out of the body as it allows your muscles to relax.
Petitgrain essential oil (Citrus aurantium var. amara or bigaradia)
Petitgrain is distilled from leaves and has a citrusy, sensual aroma. A plant's leaves allow it to "breathe." Petitgrain oil can help us to breathe clearly, too. Taking deep, steady breaths is vital for staying calm and experiencing Zen.
An interesting note about Petitgrain oil is that ANY oil distilled from citrus leaves is called Petitgrain. When you see the word "bigarade" or "bigaradia" in the oil's Latin name, you know it was distilled from the leaves of the bitter orange tree.
Enjoy your Zen diffuser blend anytime you want to unplug or take a pause in the middle of a busy day!
