DIY Natural Scar Butter to Reduce the Appearance of Scars
Once you have a scar, it's there for life.
Or not! Have you noticed that some scars diminish over time?
Our skin is a dynamic organ in our bodies, living, changing, growing, and healing. If we care for it and nourish it, it's possible that we can reduce the appearance of some scars.
I want to share a recipe from one of Aromahead's most popular classes, Body Butters and Lip Balms. (Guess what the class is about . . .) This is a natural scar butter made with nourishing carriers that are filled with vitamins and essential fatty acids (our skin loves those). Since it comes from one of our most popular classes, I thought of a fun name for this blend!

This is a natural scar butter made with nourishing carriers.
Ingredients
1 oz (28 g) Beeswax (Cera flava)
1 fl oz (30 ml) Avocado oil (Persea gratissima)
1 fl oz (30 ml) Baobab Oil (Adansonia digitata)
0.5 fl oz (15 ml) Tamanu Oil (Calophyllum inophyllum)
0.5 fl oz (15 ml) Marula Oil (Sclerocarya birrea)
1 oz (28 g) Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii)
Equipment
Three 2 oz (60 ml) glass jars
Directions
First, set up the "Stovetop Melting Method."Put a Pyrex measuring cup into a soup pot that's ¼ full of gently boiling water.
Put the beeswax in the Pyrex and melt.
Add the avocado oil, baobab oil, tamanu oil, and marula oil. Remelt.
Remove the blend from heat and add the shea butter, stirring gently with a glass stirring rod or the handle of a stainless steel spoon until the shea is melted. I suggest adding the shea last because it's more sensitive to heat than the other ingredients. If it's not melting quickly enough, you can put the blend back over the heat for a bit
When all the butters are melted together, pour the blend into three 2 oz (60 ml) glass jars. Allow it to solidify before applying it to scars.
Your natural scar butter is meant for long-term use, so it's strong but also gentle on the skin.
In the Body Butters and Lip Balms class, I have several different essential oil blends you can add to this butter to help heal different kinds of scars (like old scars, scars with irritated skin, and stretch marks).
Here's an essential oil blend you can add for newer scars.
Add the essential oils after all the butters are melted and you've removed the blend from heat.
10 drops Myrrh Oil (Commiphora myrrha)
15 drops Frankincense Oil (Boswellia carterii)
5 drops Neroli Oil (Citrus aurantium var. amara)
5 drops Helichrysum Oil (Helichrysum italicum)
