Two Essential Oils for Acne (and how to use them)
When it comes to using essential oils for acne, we want four things.
Well, okay . . . we really just want one thing! We want the acne to go away.
We can think of this in four parts, though. We want to:
Clear infection
Soothe inflammation
Reduce breakouts
Reduce scarring
I have a recipe for you that can help with all of this. It's an acne spot treatment made in a base of aloe vera gel. For this blend, I chose two essential oils for acne that I've had great experiences with—Patchouli and Helichrysum.
Both of these essential oils are amazing when it comes to skincare. Helichrysum is especially well known for its ability to support skin's overall healing and radiant appearance. It's popular in many beauty and skincare products and is even known as "Everlasting" and "Immortelle."
Patchouli is also good at clearing infections and calming inflammation. This is hands down one of my favorite essential oils for acne care!
This blend is made in a 10 ml vial with a roller-ball top.
Peaceful Easy Healing Spot Gel
8 ml Aloe Vera Gel (Aloe barbadensis)
3 drops Patchouli essential oil (Pogostemon cablin)
3 drops Helichrysum essential oil (Helichrysum italicum)
2 ml Solubol
What I love about this blend is that it's in a roller-top bottle, so you can easily take it with you and use it throughout the day. Just dab a bit on the spot that's troubling you as needed. This blend is safe to use on multiple spots, too.
The small amount (only 10 ml) means that, depending on how often you use it, you may be able to use the blend all up within just a few weeks. That's great because this blend has no preservatives and we want it to stay fresh. If you do happen to have it for longer than a few weeks, you may want to make a fresh bottle.
You also have the option to add 2 ml of Solubol to this blend. That will help keep your essential oils distributed through the aloe. If you do use Solubol, just be sure to leave some room in your bottle by decreasing the aloe vera gel by 2 mls. 2 ml may not seem like a lot, but it is about 1/5 of the bottle.
If you use these essential oils for acne regularly, I would not be surprised if you notice the redness around your acne calming down within just a few uses. Also remember to drink plenty of water and stay as emotionally balanced as you can so your skin isn't responding to stress too much (essential oils can help with that, too!) Be patient with yourself, and take care of yourself!
