Aromahead Graduate Cynthia Tamlyn has a very special focus in her business.

"I have dedicated my practice to improving the lives of children and adults who have experienced trauma. My mission is to bridge the work of trauma research, neuroscience, and clinical aromatherapy."

She works with families, children, first responders, veterans, and other survivors of violence.

Trauma is never easy, and it is especially heartbreaking when children experience it. Working within the trauma field takes a special skill set, patience, and a big heart.

Cynthia is a graduate of Aromahead's Scholar's Program, and runs her own business, Oilistic Aromatherapy.

She learned how essential oils can offer emotional support—which oils encourage sleep, uplift the heart, calm the nervous system, ease overthinking, or offer a deep sense of security and reassurance. She continues to spend time furthering her studies to bridge the world of essential oils and neuroscience to support trauma survivors.

Many of the clients that Cynthia works with have sensory issues as a result of their trauma—and some are very sensitive to and triggered by strong scents.

Fortunately, Cynthia learned in Aromahead's Aromatherapy Certification Program (ACP) that, when it comes to aromatherapy, "less is more."

She says, "I'm a conservationist at heart, and my favorite "Ëœlesson,' if you will, from Aromahead was "Ëœless is more.' That was such a contradiction to everything we see in our consumption-driven culture today. I have always rebelled against the "Ëœbuy more, use more' philosophy, so this really resonated with me."

And it helped her formulate essential oil blends at low dilutions to help clients who were scent-sensitive.

Sometimes, she did not use essential oils at all, but relied on hydrosols. (Even hydrosols can have strong aromas, and they can be diluted with filtered water to create a softer scent.)

Cynthia TamlynCynthia has helped achieve great results for her clients with these techniques.

One of her youngest clients had trouble sleeping through the night—in fact, she had only slept through the night three times in four years!

Cynthia worked with the client and her parent, and created a customized hydrosol blend for them.

While she sometimes still wakes up, she's now calm and her parents are able to get her back to sleep without any problems. Without the blend, she was agitated when she awoke during the night.

Helping clients that have been traumatized is a special calling. I feel so honored and humbled that Aromahead's ACP was a part of Cynthia's education. The ACP provided the foundation for her ability to formulate effective products for clients who've experienced trauma.

And I am so inspired by the work she continues to do. You can learn more about how she helps clients at her website, Oilistic Aromatherapy.

Cynthia's story is one of many examples of how you can use essential oils to support others.
