When was the last time you relaxed in a hot spring in a forest?

Whether you said, "Just last week," or "I've never done that," then it's been far too long!

I can't actually take you to hot springs in the forest, but I can give you this bath salt recipe that can help you feel like you're there (if you close your eyes!). It's made with Vetiver and Siberian Fir essential oils.

Vetiver has a deep, earthy aroma that is often used in perfumes. It's grounding and comforting and is so calming to the nervous system that it has earned the nickname "Oil of Tranquility."

Siberian Fir's aroma is fresh and piney. It has the effect of helping you feel refreshed and relaxed, as though you're "coming back to yourself" after a long, busy day. I've also used it in woodsy perfume blends.

Both essential oils are also excellent for supporting immunity and calming inflammation. So this is a great bath salt to use if you're feeling under the weather with congestion or body aches and pains.

Hot Springs in the Forest Bath Salt

  • 2 oz (56 g) pink Himalayan salt

  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) Jojoba Wax (Simmondsia chinensis)

  • 2 drops Vetiver essential oil (Vetiveria zizanoides)

  • 3 drops Siberian Fir essential oil (Abies sibirica)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Make this blend in a 2 oz (60 ml) jar.

  2. Put the pink salt into the jar.

  3. Add the essential oils to the jojoba, then stir into the salt with a glass stirring rod or the handle of a stainless steel spoon.

  4. Then use the whole jar in your bath!

Note: Carrier oils can make the bathtub slippery. Another option is to use Castile soap to disperse the essential oils in the bath water.

If you prefer to use Castile soap, simply add the essential oils to 1 Tbsp of Castile soap. Castile soap can sometimes cause the salt to harden, so we recommend adding the salt directly to the bath water.

Don't have a bathtub? Don't worry!

You can use this blend as a body scrub in the shower. I would just suggest adjusting the recipe a bit.

For a body scrub, use 1 oz (28 g) pink salt, and 1 oz (30 ml) jojoba wax (Simmondsia chinensis). The blend will be oily, but we're looking for that. This blend is so moisturizing that you may even find that you don't need to use body oil or lotion after your shower.

If you make the body scrub, be sure to use a power towel to wipe down your shower floor after you use it. The jojoba leaves surfaces slippery, and I don't want you to fall! Enjoy!
