How to Make Aromatherapy Closet Spray
I always like to start a new year with a house that's cleaned with natural cleaners and room fresheners.
Call it "New Year's Cleaning!" There is something about an aromatic, clean, tidy space that seems to invite positive new beginnings.
Have you done anything fun this year yet?
Spent time with friends or family? Used some essential oils? Made some wonderful Aromatherapy blends?
One room it's easy to overlook is your closet.
But take it from me . . . a sweetly-scented closet can make a huge difference! It can make your clothes smell amazing, give you an uplifted feeling when you put them on, and even discourage pests and moths from hanging out in your wardrobe. Not to mention that everywhere you go, some people can get a delicate whiff of aroma and maybe ask you, Ohh, what is that?
I love using Aromatherapy closet spray!
You can easily make an Aromatherapy closet spray out of hydrosol, which doesn't contain any essential oil. Its aroma is not overwhelming.
What's a hydrosol? When an aromatic plant is steam distilled, we get two "products" from the final distillate. The plant releases its essential oil, and then we also have the water portion of the distillate, which has been infused with the plant's water-soluble components. That's the hydrosol.
Hydrosols are so nourishing and offer their own therapeutic benefits.
They also don't come with the safety considerations that we need to be aware of for some essential oils. So you can use hydrosols freely on your skin, and hair, and as upholstery spray, clothing spray, and (of course!) Aromatherapy closet spray.
A few hydrosols that make excellent Aromatherapy closet spray are . . .
Of course, you can use any hydrosol you like! They are all beautiful (but keep in mind that sometimes the hydrosol smells different than the essential oil).
I have to tell you about Chai co-distill hydrosol . . .
This is a blend made by Aromatics International.
It's a co-distill of 5 certified organic spices: Ginger, Cinnamon, Clove, Cardamom, and Black Pepper. If you are a fan of spices, you will LOVE this hydrosol!
Co-distill means the hydrosols are not distilled individually and then blended. The plants are all put into the SAME still, so the resulting hydrosol is a true blend.
You can use your Aromatherapy closet spray freely on your clothes—just a light spritz will do it! All the same, it's a good idea to be sure the clothes are okay to get a touch wet (no leather or suede).
