How to Use Juniper Essential Oil for Joint Pain
Calm Inflammation (short and long-term) by using Essential Oil for Joint Pain
Juniper essential oil knew from the time it was young that it didn't want to go into the family business.
Its family had created handmade furniture for generations. But Juniper noticed that a lot of its family members developed joint point due to all that woodworking . . . So Juniper learned a different skill set—massage and Aromatherapy! It learned to make pain relief gels, oils, and butters to ease inflamed joints.
I dreamed up that story for the Juniper essential oil profile in my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy. It's a great way to remember some of Juniper's talents!
And that part of the story is not dreamed up—Juniper really is an exceptional essential oil for joint pain.
It's wonderful for calming swelling in joints, muscles, limbs, and connective tissues. It also brings a sensation of warmth and circulation to the area where it's applied. I especially like to use it in gels for achy knees and fingers.
Here's a recipe with Juniper essential oil straight from The Heart of Aromatherapy . . . Juniper's own "Jumping for Joy"Joint Gel. (Great for achy knees!)
Juniper's "Jumping for Joy" Joint Gel
1 oz (28 g) aloe vera gel (Aloe barbadensis)
6 drops Juniper (Juniperus communis)
4 drops German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
4 drops Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii motia)
4 drops Lemon (Citrus limon)
Directions
Make the blend in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle. Pour the aloe vera gel into the bottle and add the essential oils.
Shake the blend gently before each use to help distribute the essential oils through the aloe. If you like, you can also add 3 ml of Solubol, which is a "dispersant" that can help keep the essential oils distributed through the aloe.
I recommend making this blend fresh every few weeks since there's no preservative in it . . . but I think you will use it all up long before that! Finding a joint blend that works for you can be a real "game changer."/p>
Along with using Juniper essential oil for joint pain, this blend includes German Chamomile (a blue essential oil that is a master of pain relief!), Palmarosa (excellent for easing swelling and supporting skin), and Lemon (another strong anti-inflammatory and cooling oil). Aloe gel is the perfect carrier, helping this blend absorb quickly. It won't get all over clothes or linens, so you can use this blend at night, too.
If you liked this recipe (and Juniper's life story!), you can find more like it in The Heart of Aromatherapy. It will show you more ways to use Juniper and different methods of using essential oil for joint pain. You never know what's going to make a difference for you.
Take care of yourself and have fun with your new and reduced joint pain!
