A homemade toothpaste recipe with essential oils

How often do you brush your teeth? I hope you said, "At least twice a day!"

We clean our teeth so often, and it's important to me to use a natural, healthy toothpaste. The ingredients in toothpaste are absorbed in our mouths, so it's worth it to pay attention to them.

Making your own all natural homemade toothpaste is a great way to keep your teeth clean, and to feel confident in your ingredients.

Here's a favorite homemade toothpaste recipe of mine. You'll need a 1 oz (30 ml) glass jar with a lid, coconut oil, and baking soda.

Minty Coconut Toothpaste
Directions:

  1. Mix ½ oz (14 gm) coconut oil (Cocos nucifera) with ½ oz (14 gm) baking soda in the glass jar.

  2. Put a little of the blend on your toothbrush, and brush your teeth.

That's it!

Have you ever used baking soda in natural green cleaners to remove stains? Well, it can work the same way here—baking soda helps remove stains from teeth and keeps them white.

Your homemade toothpaste will taste like coconut oil (and I love the taste of coconut oil!).

If you would like to freshen up the flavor, and add some bacteria fighting and cleansing properties, just add 2 drops of essential oils to your blend:

mint-leaves

  • 1 drop Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita)

  • 1 drop Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Peppermint and Tea Tree are just right for oral care.

They have antiviral and antibacterial properties, can reduce inflammation in the gums, and stimulate circulation in your mouth.

They also freshen up your breath and taste great—something I think we all want in our toothpaste!
