Aromatherapy for horses!

Kristien Lemmens uses aromatherapy for horses!

She lives and works in Belgium.

Her business is Paardsgeluk (which Google Translate tells me means “horse luck” or “horse happiness!”) Kristien recognizes that for horses (and humans), emotional and physical health are connected. Essential oils are a natural way of helping horses heal themselves.

But she also understands that essential oils are highly concentrated. Being able to safely use aromatherapy for animals requires in-depth study.

That’s why Kristien is not only a Certified Aromatherapist—able to use essential oils expertly for humans—she’s also certified in Animal PsychoAromatica.

What is Animal PsychoAromatica?

If you’re thinking, “That sounds amazing . . . but what is it?” You’re not alone!

On her website, Kristien explains:

“Animal PsychoAromatica is a holistic animal healing system developed by Nayana Morag . . . The foundational philosophy is its belief that most of what we call illness can be prevented if we properly address the early signs of stress in the body or mind.”

To reduce stress, we need to understand what causes  stress in the body and mind, create a healthy environment for that animal and thus prevent disease before it gets worse.

There’s great wisdom in this. Many systems of healing around the world consider a holistic model—treating the person (or horse!) as part of a “biosystem.” They understand that the environment we live in, what we eat, who we interact with, what we spend our time doing, and more all have an impact on our overall health.

Another key principle of Animal PsychoAromatica is something we teach here at Aromahead:

Always let an animal choose whether or not to use an essential oil.

Never force them to be exposed to an essential oil. Animals have intuitive intelligence. They know what can help them heal—often better than we do.

Learn more about the 5 tenets of Animal PsychoAromatica. (Kristien’s website is in Dutch, but you can use a translation tool, like Google Translate. While it might not be a perfect translation, it does communicate Kristien’s meaning.) The system also works for dogs and cats (although hydrosols are often used first for cats).

How Kristien mastered her practice

There was a time in her life when Kristien would never have imagined herself using aromatherapy—let alone aromatherapy for horses!

She’s been an arthritis patient for many years (since her early twenties), and it put stress on both her immune system and her ability to mentally focus. Then she discovered essential oils and started using them regularly. Her health improved—and Kristien wanted to learn more about essential oils!

But she didn’t fully trust all of the information floating around online.

She wanted a qualified school. That’s how she found Aromahead.

Even so, she felt a little intimidated by the prospect of learning.

I was a bit afraid of studying in a foreign language. My mother language is Dutch. It has been decades since I’ve really studied this kind of material and my brain is aging . . . not only because I’m in the end of my 40s, but from having brain fog for years . . .

I never thought I could take up a study once again, let alone in English
. . . but I absolutely loved learning for the first time in my life!

We’re proud to have Kristien as an Aromahead graduate! (Check out her profile!)

Even though she’s graduated, she’s not done learning. Kristien values ongoing education, and the more she learns, the more she wants to know. In addition to earning Aromatherapy Certification with us at Aromahead and learning to care for animals with Nayana Morag, she’s studied with Robert Tisserand (an internationally renowned aromatherapist) and others.

As Kristien says, “Learning never stops!”

I couldn’t agree more!

Do you want to use aromatherapy for animals?

If you feel called to use aromatherapy with animals, give yourself the education you need to do so safely.

Learn as much as you can. Become a Certified Aromatherapist so you understand the science and chemistry of essential oils, including how they work with the body. Then continue your studies with a qualified specialist who focuses on aromatherapy for animals.

It’s a journey that will change your life and help you change the lives of so many animals—and their humans.
