3 Ways that Tea Tree Essential Oil Benefits Us and How to Use It Safely

Tea tree essential oil, derived from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, is a well-known oil with a multitude of benefits. While there's a plethora of information online, not all of it is reliable. As an expert with over 20 years of experience, I'll share three research-based benefits of this versatile essential oil.

Benefit #1: Reducing Infections

Tea tree oil, thanks to its principal component "terpinen-4-ol," is effective in reducing germs and clearing infections. This makes it a reliable remedy for colds, the flu, and even sinus infections. A simple way to reap these benefits is by inhaling the oil's steam. Just add a drop to a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel to trap the steam, and breathe in deeply. Remember, one drop is enough for this procedure.

Benefit #2: Calming Acne

Tea tree oil's strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties make it beneficial for calming acne. For a spot treatment, mix 18 drops of tea tree oil with 1 oz (28 g) of aloe vera gel and 3 ml of Solubol dispersant. Apply the mixture directly onto the acne to soothe inflammation and reduce infection.

Benefit #3: Treating Foot Fungus

Foot fungus may be an uncomfortable subject, but it's a common issue that can be addressed naturally with tea tree oil. Its primary component, terpinen-4-ol, is also effective in reducing fungus. A blend of tea tree oil with other essential oils in a base of aloe vera gel can be a potent remedy. Here's the recipe:

Foot Fungus Solution

  • 1 oz (28 g) Aloe Vera Gel

  • 3 ml Solubol

  • 6 drops Tea Tree essential oil

  • 3 drops Lavender essential oil

  • 3 drops Geranium essential oil

  • 3 drops Palmarosa essential oil

Combine all the ingredients in a 1 oz glass bottle and shake gently. The Solubol helps disperse the essential oils in the aloe vera gel, which is a water-based ingredient. Remember, since aloe vera is water-based, it's best to make a fresh batch of this mixture every few weeks.

In summary, tea tree essential oil provides several benefits, from reducing infections and calming acne to treating foot fungus. The three recipes shared here offer safe and effective ways to utilize tea tree oil.
