Try Helichrysum and Lavender Essential Oils for Bruises

The best essential oils for bruises
Helichrysum and Lavender essential oils are two of the best natural choices for a bruise. Diluted in Jojoba oil, they calm the swelling, discoloration, and soreness while the tissue heals.
Do you bruise easily? I have a friend who always walks into the corner of her coffee table, so her lower legs seem to stay black and blue. If this sounds familiar, I have a recipe for you.
Keep a few essential oils for bruises on hand: Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) and Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia).
Lavender's affinity for skin and healing is well known. Its calming compound, linalool, has been studied for easing inflammation and pain, and for speeding the healing of cuts and burns. That's exactly what a bruise needs.
Helichrysum is less familiar, but it may be the more potent healer of the two. It's often my first choice for a bruise, since it seems to shorten how long the bruise lasts. On a small cut, a drop of Helichrysum can visibly speed the healing and helps prevent scarring.
Why Helichrysum and Lavender work
Corsican Helichrysum owes some of its healing reputation to its ketones, usually above 5% in a good oil, plus a compound called curcumene that supports tissue repair.
Helichrysum & Lavender Bruise Blend
- 1 fl oz (30 ml) Jojoba wax (Simmondsia chinensis)
- 10 drops Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum)
- 10 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
Directions
Blend the drops of Helichrysum and Lavender into the Jojoba, and apply gently over the bruise.
You can also blend the two essential oils directly in a small glass bottle. When a bruise happens, add a drop of the stock blend to a teaspoon of Jojoba or Trauma Oil.
Trauma Oil is a carrier oil infused with St. John's wort, arnica, and calendula flowers. It's healing on its own, and adding Helichrysum and Lavender speeds things up further.
If you tend to walk into tables or catch your elbow on a desk, keep this blend nearby.

Questions people ask
Can I put Helichrysum or Lavender directly on my skin?
Dilute first. This blend uses 20 drops of essential oil in 1 fl oz (30 ml) of Jojoba oil, gentle enough for daily use on a bruise.
What if I don't have Trauma Oil?
Jojoba oil alone works well as the carrier. Trauma Oil adds extra healing, but it's optional.
What does Helichrysum smell like?
Corsican Helichrysum has a honeyed aroma, with rich, slightly fruity and herbaceous undertones. Lavender's scent is softer and more floral.
Can I use this blend on a cut instead of a bruise?
This bruise blend is meant for unbroken skin. For a small cut, a single drop of Helichrysum on the cleaned wound works well, then follow with Lavender once it's closed.
