Unleash Your Warrior Spirit: Emotional Healing with Bee Balm
The Emotional Component of Healing
In the beautiful journey of life, every experience carries with it a touch of emotion—even the process of healing itself. When I get a small wound on my skin, there are usually emotions associated with that. I might worry about how deep the wound is. I might feel anxious about infection.
The essential oils we use offer physical benefits but also inspire profound emotional effects. If I use Bee Balm oil to prevent wound infection (learn how to do that here!), the oil can help me feel secure and calm—but also courageous in the face of pain and confident in my healing. With this understanding, we can turn to essential oils for emotional as well as physical support.
In this post, you’ll learn how Bee Balm oil can help you access your inner emotional warrior and empower you to tap into your courage and move through stress with grace.
We’ll discuss how the plant’s hardy nature lends us the confidence to persist through life’s challenges, and how its ability to create different versions of its essential oil helps us adapt to change.
Lastly, I will share a fortifying body oil recipe to support you during periods of stress or difficulty.
Let’s explore how this oil distilled from delicate purple flowers offers both tenderness and strength!
Bee Balm: An Emotional Warrior
Bee Balm (Monadara fistulosa) is a tough and versatile plant that will take root and thrive in a variety of soils and locations. Wherever it chooses to grow, it delights the bees with its abundance of lovely purple blooms!
Bee Balm’s ability to adapt to diverse locations and conditions results in the plant producing different varieties of essential oil based upon where it grows. (Learn about the different varieties in my post, “Benefits and Uses of a Warrior Oil.”)
This versatility reminds us that wherever life takes us, it can be an opportunity for growth. Just as Bee Balm can adapt to its surroundings and produce different types of essential oil, we have the strength to thrive in different conditions and express different aspects of our Selves.
I call Bee Balm a “warrior oil.” This is not only because of the potent components in the oil—carvacrol and thymol, which have strong actions against microbes (read about it here)—but also due to how the oil fortifies us in the face of challenges. Whether we’re dealing with a sudden stressful event or coping with the continual flow of routine demands that leads to burnout, Bee Balm takes our hand and inspires us with fresh energy.
Reach for Bee Balm oil to:
Tap into your inner strength
Feel secure in stressful situations
Overcome emotional burnout
Build confidence and self-esteem
Spark your energy
Find motivation and courage to “go for it!”
Blending with Bee Balm for Emotional Support
Depending upon the specific emotional needs at hand, I like to blend Bee Balm with certain oils. Here are a few of my favorite combinations:
For acutely stressful situations, blend Bee Balm with Thyme ct linalool (Thymus vulgaris ct linalool). Roman soldiers are said to have used Thyme to build their courage before a battle! Clove Bud (Syzygium aromaticum) is another excellent option.
For ongoing stress that wears you down over time, go with oils that boost your mood, like Lemon (Citrus limon). Oils such as Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis) that lift and protect your energy can be a great help, too.
To build your self-esteem and confidence, combine Bee Balm with a nurturing floral, like Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). Or opt for a refreshing oil that helps you see things clearly, like Peppermint (Mentha × piperita). Peppermint and Bee Balm smell lovely together—they’re both members of the mint family!
For energy and motivation, choose oils that support a bold, can-do attitude. Spicy oils like Ginger (Zingiber officinale) and Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) are great options.
For a sense of optimism despite challenges, pair Bee Balm with Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) or Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus). They’re both fresh, uplifting oils that clear away heavy energy!
Bee Balm Safety Guidelines
“Warrior oils” such as Bee Balm that contain potent components like carvacrol and thymol deserve respect! These two phenol components can irritate skin and mucous membranes, and we must exercise awareness when blending with Bee Balm.
For topical blends, keep Bee Balm essential oil at a 1% concentration—that’s 5 or 6 drops in 1 oz (30 ml) of carrier. Blending Bee Balm with skin-nourishing ingredients can offset the aggressive nature of its phenols. I like to choose rich carriers, such as shea butter and jojoba oil, which can protect your skin, and skin-supportive essential oils like Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), to calm irritation and help skin heal.
Bee Balm has some safety concerns when used topically, but also has notable antioxidant properties that can provide protection for the skin. Read about it here!
This recipe combines the empowering aspects of Bee Balm with strengthening Thyme ct linalool and nurturing, floral Geranium. Reach for it when you’re going through a stressful period, or when you need a boost of confidence to accomplish a challenging task.
