Her story

How Kathryn turned a passion into a business.

I have been interested in natural skincare specifically oils and essential oils since I stumbled on them in my skincare journey (about age 15). I had terrible acne growing up. The Aromahead Institute Aromatherapist Course was one of the first steps in turning my passion into a business!

Now I am the co-owner of Flor y Amor Natural Skincare, - launched in 2020. All the products have a foundation in aromatherapy and are all my own formulations. With our products, we try and create ´Spa Moments ´ at home by carefully combining blends to help, both topically and energetically, make you feel more relaxed, energized, centered, etc.

I don´t think the magic of encountering a new essential oil ever gets old, I love how they can transform you and an ambiance within seconds!

What she’s building

Flor y Amor Natural Skincare

We use vegan, organic ingredients and all our products have a foundation in aromatherapy. Everything is handmade in small batches in our artisanal lab in sunny Tenerife.

We have body oils, face oils, soaps, bath bombs, essential oil blends, shampoo/conditioner bars, and lotion bars as well as mini packs and travel packs. We also do hotel amenities, wedding favors and corporate gifting.

It has helped me so much with product development and knowing that what I am creating is at a safe dilution and not phototoxic for example. I didn't know that shea butter doesn't like the heat so that was an amazing tip for me - no more grainy butter :) The chemistry and science that we learned in the course give so much more diversity in 'reading' essential oils and now I am…

The best parts of learning here

What made the difference, in Kathryn’s words.

Kathryn's product line is built on what she learned here. These are the parts she points to, in her own words.

Safety you can build on

Safe dilutions and phototoxicity become clear, practical checks you build into every product.

It has helped me so much with product development and knowing that what I am creating is at a safe dilution and not phototoxic for example.

Practical down to the butter

The lessons carry hands-on detail a maker can use on the very next batch.

I didn't know that shea butter doesn't like the heat so that was an amazing tip for me - no more grainy butter :)

Chemistry that reads the oil

Understanding components and families gives you a working way to choose oils and find substitutes.

The chemistry and science that we learned in the course give so much more diversity in 'reading' essential oils and now I am much more clued up on how to work out substitutes.
