You learn essential oil chemistry down to the isomer, read a GC/MS report as a decision-making tool, and blend from the component up. Eight modules take you from the atom to the hospice bedside, with 37 essential oils, seven hydrolats, the Clinical Lessons and six mentored case studies. The Advanced Graduate Program is the course certified aromatherapists take to work at the clinical level. It begins with the chemistry: atoms, bonds and molecular formulas, then every chemical family in turn, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, monoterpenols, sesquiterpenols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, esters and oxides, each with its structures, its oils, its worksheet and a blend to make. You learn to read a GC/MS report and Aromahead's Potent Percentage Charts as decision-making tools, and to blend from a single component, from a chemical family, from a plant family or a plant part, and from the synergy of oils that share components.
Then the program puts the chemistry to work with people. Seven hydrolats are taught for clinical and hospice care, where an essential oil is often too much. Eight clinical lessons open at a bedside and walk through working alongside medical professionals, reading a medication list, pregnancy and birth, infants and children, aging and memory care, chemotherapy and cancer care, and hospice. Six mentored case studies, an intake and three reports for each client, bring it all into your own practice, with your case-study instructor reading and replying to every report.
Thirty-seven essential oils are studied through their own data sheets, written for this course, each with its GC/MS report, its chemistry, its clinical applications, its safety and a recipe. Many of them are lesser-known oils: Palo Santo, Ghandi Root, Sugandha Kokila, Linaloe Berry, Makrut Lime Peel, Xanthoxylum, Saro and Inula among them. The Component Database, Aromahead's research library of essential oil components, is part of your student dashboard from the day you enroll.

Meet your instructors, gather your supplies (the Aromatics International kit is optional), learn the Component Database and the component search, and read the safety information every blend in the program rests on.
Module 1Basic Chemistry and Monoterpenes · 21 lessons
Atoms, elements and bonds, and how to read a molecular formula. The monoterpene family across oils such as Black Pepper, Palo Santo, Cistus and Mandarin. Potential drug and essential oil interactions, Aromahead's eight approaches to blending, and the Potent Percentage Charts. A d-limonene blend and an inhaler built on the pinenes.
Module 2Isomers, Sesquiterpenes and Carriers · 11 lessons
Isomers, explained with video. The fifteen-carbon sesquiterpenes in Balsam Copaiba, Turmeric, Yarrow and Rhododendron. The nine carrier oils and butters of the program, each with its own data sheet, and a skin-healing body butter.
Module 3Monoterpenols and Sesquiterpenols · 16 lessons
The alcohols, with linalool at the center and oils from Coriander to Rose Otto. The functional group chart across every family, and where to search the research. A hand gel, a salt scrub and a foot powder.
Module 4Phenols and Ethers · 12 lessons
The benzene ring. Thyme ct. thymol and Cinnamon Leaf, with the dilution and safety guidance the phenols call for. The ethers, and a cold and flu lotion built on terpinen-4-ol.
Module 5Aldehydes, Ketones and Esters · 21 lessons
Three families in one module. May Chang and Cinnamon Bark; preservatives, antioxidants and Solubol for water-based blends; the ketone oils and the camphor guidelines; the esters, with Wintergreen's cautions; blending oils that share components. A grout scrub, an antifungal hydrolat spray, a blend for painful joints and a dry shampoo powder.
Module 6Oxides, Plant Families and Plant Parts · 13 lessons
1,8-Cineole and Aromahead's guideline for children. Free radicals and an antioxidant lotion. Every component structure in one review, the eighteen plant families of the course oils, and blending by plant part.
Module 7Hydrolats · 9 lessons
Seven hydrolats for clinical and hospice care: Frankincense, German Chamomile, Helichrysum, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Peppermint and Rose Otto, each with its chemistry, its research and its recipes, from mists and compresses to a clay face mask and a poultice.
Module 8The Clinical Lessons · 24 lessons
Working alongside medical professionals, documentation and SOAP notes. Reading a medication list. Pregnancy, birth and the early weeks. Infants and children. Aging, memory care and long-term care. Chemotherapy and cancer care. Hospice and palliative care. Each lesson opens at a bedside and carries its own worksheets and activities.
