What this makes you

This is where you become a professional.

Most people start with a bottle of lavender and a question. You finish this program able to read that oil’s chemistry, blend it for a real person’s needs, and put your name behind the result.

That is the line between someone who took a good course and a Certified Professional Aromatherapist: real practice, real feedback from our team, and a credential that says you can do the work. For more than twenty years, this is the program where that line gets drawn.

How certification works

Learn it. Practice it. Prove it.

The certification adds three stages on top of the coursework, the same arc every Aromahead graduate walks: learn the science, practice with real people, then prove your skill to earn the credential.

Learn

Master the science and the craft

Everything in the Essential Oil Specialist coursework is included: 7 in-depth lessons, 48 essential oils, the chemistry of how they work, and hands-on blending. Finish it and you earn the Essential Oil Specialist Certificate, your first certificate on the way.

170+ hours · 48 oils · 48 recipes & datasheets
Practice

Work with real people, and the body

The included A&P course, A Journey Through Anatomy, Physiology & Pathophysiology, shows you how oils work in harmony with the human body. Then you complete twenty real client case studies. Your personal case-study instructor, an advanced professional aromatherapist on our team, reads every report and gives you feedback, one blend at a time.

A&P (76 hrs) · 20 client case studies · instructor feedback
Prove

Show what you can do, and earn the title

Research and write a paper on an aromatherapy topic you choose, then pass the written exam and the final certification exam. When you finish, you have met the education requirement for NAHA Level 2 and AIA Level 2.

Inside the program

Go deeper than you thought a course could.

Thirty-four video lessons, taught with real plant chemistry in a warm, plain-spoken voice. This is the kind of depth that sets the certification apart from a weekend course.

The chemistry, by family

You learn oils the way professionals do, by their molecular families: esters, monoterpenes, monoterpenols, sesquiterpenes, phenols, oxides. These are the layers that make medicinal blending actually work.

A full class on a single oil

We spend an entire lesson on Eucalyptus alone: its chemotypes, when the cineole type beats the camphor type, what to pair it with to lift mental fatigue. That is the depth you study at, oil after oil.

Read a GC/MS report

Learn to read the lab report behind every bottle, so you can judge an oil’s quality and choose the right one for the situation, the way a professional sources their oils.

Real safety, real math

Use the phototoxicity calculator, learn drug interactions, and blend safely for children, during pregnancy, and for the elderly. Here, safety is a skill you practice, not a disclaimer.

Make remedies with your hands

Body butters, lip balms, hard salves, pain-and-inflammation butters, steam blends, inhalers. You leave able to formulate your own, not just follow a recipe.

The business of aromatherapy

Price your products, label them to FDA guidelines, and choose your path: a product line, a practice, or teaching. The program ends by helping you build your own vision.

Real rigor

A real certification, with a real exam.

By the time you finish, you will answer questions like these, the kind on the exams, with confidence. There is a written exam and a final certification exam, plus twenty client case studies and a research paper, each one read by your instructor.

  • Which essential oil is contraindicated when the client is taking warfarin (Coumadin)?
  • Which chemotype of Thyme is safe for the skin?
  • Citrus oils have a large percentage of which chemical family?
  • How many carbon atoms are found in a sesquiterpene?
  • Which of the following components is a ketone?
  • As an aromatherapist, what should you always do when you’re working with someone?

Questions, answered

Aromatherapy Certification Program FAQ

What is the Aromatherapy Certification Program (ACP)?

The Aromatherapy Certification Program (ACP) is Aromahead Institute’s flagship course, designed to provide comprehensive training in the safe and effective use of essential oils. It meets the professional standards set by both the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) and the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA), ensuring graduates are recognized as qualified practitioners in aromatherapy. The course is suitable for beginners and advanced learners, preparing students to pursue a professional career as certified aromatherapists.

How can I become a certified aromatherapist online?

To become a certified aromatherapist online, enroll in Aromahead’s Aromatherapy Certification Program. This 100% online program offers video lessons, in-depth coursework, and lifetime access to study materials. Upon completion, graduates earn a professional certification that is recognized by both the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) and the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA). This dual recognition qualifies you to practice aromatherapy in a variety of professional settings worldwide.

Do I need to take Pathways 1 and 2 first?

No. The certification is a complete program: the full coursework is included, so you can begin here on day one, even as a beginner. If you would like the Natural Living workshops and the rest of the Pathways 1 and 2 library alongside your certification study, choose the Pathway 3 Bundle when you enroll. It includes every course in Pathways 1 through 3.

Which enrollment option should I choose?

Most students choose the Pathway 3 Bundle at $2,395. It includes everything in the certification plus every course in Pathways 1 and 2 and the Component Blending course, about $1,500 of additional coursework for $200 more. Choose the certification on its own at $2,195 if you want the credential without the extra Pathways 1 and 2 courses. Every option includes the Certification cohort and 3 free months of membership (first-time members). Choose the Scholars Program at $4,495 if you already know you want to go all the way to Certified Clinical Aromatherapist.

What does the program cost, and are there payment plans?

The certification on its own is $2,195. The Pathway 3 Bundle, which adds every course in Pathways 1 and 2, is $2,395. The Scholars Program, our complete path through clinical training, is $4,495. Every option has a monthly payment plan: 6 payments of $382.50 or $415, or 12 payments of $399 for the Scholars Program, with longer plans available at checkout.

I already own Pathway 2, the Specialist coursework. Do I pay full price?

No. Email team@aromahead.com with what you own, and we will set up a custom bundle for the Pathway 3 credential work alone. Everything you already own stays yours, and you never pay for a course twice.

What is included in the essential oils certification course?

Some people refer to our certification program as an essential oils certification course. Aromatherapy includes essential oils and much more. The certification program includes 235 credit hours of comprehensive instruction on topics such as: Safe and effective essential oil use. The chemistry of essential oils. Customizing therapeutic blends. Business practices for aromatherapy professionals. The program also meets the requirements for certification by both NAHA and AIA, adding credibility and value to your training. Students receive lifetime access to course materials and a detailed aromatherapy manual.

What makes Aromahead’s ACP the best aromatherapy certification program?

Aromahead’s Aromatherapy Certification Program meets the high standards set by both NAHA and AIA, is taught entirely online, and is built on a science-based curriculum. It suits both enthusiasts and aspiring professionals, with lifetime access to resources and ongoing support. Students gain a deep understanding of essential oil chemistry, blending techniques, and practical application, preparing them for a career in aromatherapy or complementary health fields. Aromahead is also proud of its case-study instructor team: advanced professional aromatherapists who read and respond to every student’s work.

What is the difference between aromatherapy certification and essential oil education?

Aromatherapy certification provides a formal qualification recognized by professional organizations such as NAHA and AIA, ensuring a high standard of education in essential oil use, safety, and application. General essential oil education is less structured and typically doesn’t lead to certification or professional recognition.

Can I complete the aromatherapy certification program entirely online?

Yes! The ACP is designed to be completed 100% online. This flexible format allows students to study at their own pace while accessing in-depth video lessons, quizzes, and interactive content from anywhere in the world. Additionally, the course is recognized by both NAHA and AIA, giving it international credibility.

How long does it take to complete the Aromatherapy Certification Program?

The ACP is self-paced, allowing students to work according to their own schedules. Most participants complete the course within 6–12 months, though some finish sooner. Upon completion, graduates earn certification recognized by both NAHA and AIA, opening the door to professional opportunities in aromatherapy.

Are there prerequisites for joining the ACP?

No prior experience is required to enroll in Aromahead’s ACP. The program is open to anyone interested in aromatherapy, whether they’re beginners or looking to deepen their knowledge. It meets professional requirements set by NAHA and AIA, giving students a clear path to certification and professional recognition.

What career opportunities are available for certified aromatherapists?

Certified aromatherapists build careers in holistic health practices, spa and wellness settings, essential oil education and consulting, retail and product development, and corporate wellness programs. Many graduates use the certification to deepen an existing career in nursing, pharmacy, chiropractic care, naturopathy, or massage therapy. Aromahead is also an approved continuing-education provider for massage therapists: the program carries 90 Florida CEs and 42 New York CEs, and Aromahead is an approved NCBTMB provider.

Do I really get lifetime access?

Yes. Enroll once and the program is yours: every lesson, video, recipe, and update, with no subscription and no expiration. Aromahead has been teaching online for more than twenty years, and your access lasts as long as the school does.
