Clarissa Ceruti
Aromatherapy Certification Program graduate“I have always been attracted by the therapeutic properties of plants and flowers.”
How Clarissa went from the lab bench to the blend.
I studied organic chemistry at University of Torino (Italy) and then completed a PhD in biochemistry at the University of Torino Medical School. I spent a year at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston studying IRS-1 a small enzyme involved in the insulin signaling pathway. After a few years spent in the lab, I decided I had enough and enrolled in an MBA program at Simmons College in Boston.
A few years ago, while working at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, I met an anesthesiologist with whom talked about an aromatherapydevice to alleviate nausea in people undergoing surgery or chemotherapy. There are a lot of them. Hence, the idea of developing a blend to mitigate nausea.
To strengthen my knowledge, in February 2015 I enrolled in the Aromatherapy Certification Program at the Aromahead Institute and graduated in October of the same year. I have learned a lot about essential oils, and through cases with real problems, I have applied that knowledge to alleviate discomfort in friends and relatives.
The Aromahead Institute was the perfectprogram for me.
My Own Aroma
The ultimate goal of my business, My Own Aroma, is to "aromatize your life" with the aroma of your choice.
Currently, I am focusing on making a blend of essential oils to be used to mitigate nausea. Nausea is a very common discomfort that affects people undergoing chemotherapy or surgery, pregnant women, or travelers with motion sickness. Most of these people can not or do not want to take drugs because of their potential side effects, and I believe that aromatherapy can be of big bighelp to alleviate the symptoms of nausea.
What made the difference, in Clarissa’s words.
Clarissa came to the program with a chemistry degree and a biochemistry PhD. Here is what stood out, in her own words.
Cases with real problems
The case studies put a scientist to work on one specific person at a time.
I very much enjoyed working on the cases, particularly in studying the essential oils to use to alleviate a specific problem in the client.
Research she could sink into
A PhD biochemist got to do what she does: dig through the literature for the right answer.
I spent a lot of time researching, reading articles or books to identify the best blend.
A paper worth writing
The final research paper left her wishing for more of them.
I also enjoyed writing the final paper. With so many different but interesting topics to chose from, I had a hard time deciding on what to focus. I wish I had to write two additional final papers to graduate :-)
A clear path, one step at a time.
Clarissa is a graduate of the Aromatherapy Certification (Pathway 3), earning her Certified Professional Aromatherapist credential. It is a cumulative path: each step includes everything before it, and you can climb as far as you like, at your own pace. See the full path →
Start where Clarissa started.
Clarissa brought a career in biochemistry to aromatherapy, and is turning it into a blend for people who need relief from nausea. Your first pathway is free, and your Pathway 1 dashboard opens right away.
