Want to make natural lip balm as an Aromatherapy gift for people on your list?

You don't need a lot of fancy ingredients to do it! I have a simple lip balm recipe that only calls for THREE ingredients.

It comes from my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy: An Easy-to-Use Guide for Essential Oils. (This recipe really lives up to that title!)

Let's get right into the lip balm recipe.

Then I'll tell you how to make your blend more personal for people on your list.

Beeswax's "Bee Sweet" Lip Balm

This is a "sweet" handmade Aromatherapy gift that people will love!

Ingredients

  • 1 oz (28 gm) Beeswax (Cera flava)

  • 1½ fl oz (45 ml) Vanilla-infused Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)

  • 1½ oz (42 g) Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera)

Equipment
  • Four 1 oz (30 ml) lip balm tins or jars

  • Several small bowls (to measure your ingredients)

  • Kitchen scale

  • Glass stirring rod (or a stainless steel spoon)

  • Pyrex measuring cup

  • Cooking pot that can hold the Pyrex

Directions
  • Set up the "Stovetop Melting Method" by placing a Pyrex measuring cup in a soup pot that's ¼ full of gently boiling water.
Your ingredients will go in the Pyrex.

  • Melt the beeswax in the Pyrex measuring cup.

  • Add the vanilla-infused jojoba, stirring gently.

  • Add the coconut oil and stir until melted.

  • Remove the Pyrex from the heat.

  • Pour the melted lip balm into your tins or jars, and let them cool.
It won't take long (about 15 minutes).

  • Put labels on them (use festive holiday labels, if you like!)

Now you have four Aromatherapy gifts for people on your list!

This lip balm recipe is great for women, men, and kids. It has the subtle aroma and flavor of vanilla and honey, and the feeling of it on your lips is not waxy or greasy. It moisturizes, protects, and nourishes.

Did you notice something . . . ?
There aren't any essential oils in this lip balm recipe!

This is a very "clean base" recipe you can work with. I sometimes leave essential oils out of lip balms altogether. Even when I do include essential oil, it doesn't take much. Our lips are sensitive, and they're so close to our noses.

If you do want to include essential oil in your lip balm recipe, here are a few suggestions.

Add these drops after taking the melted ingredients off the stove BEFORE pouring your blend into the lip balm tins.

  • 60 drops (about 2.4 ml) Sweet Orange oil (Citrus sinensis).
This comes to about 15 drops of essential oil in every 1 oz (30 ml) jar

OR . . .

  • 60 drops (about 2.4 ml) of distilled Lime oil (Citrus aurantifolia) would also be great!
Be sure you're working with DISTILLED lime essential oil to avoid phototoxic concerns on your lips.

This is a great lip balm recipe you can make in very little time, and then you have "sweet" handmade Aromatherapy gifts that people will love and will be able to use regularly. But "bee" ready . . . they might ask you for more lip balm after they use it all up! Interested in another one of our favorite lip balm recipes? Check this one out. It has coconut, cocoa, vanilla, and lime!
