Keep your windows and glass surfaces clean and sparkling with this all-natural glass cleaner recipe!

Lavender and Orange essential oil brings a sweet aroma and germ-reducing effect.

Orange essential oil came home to find its friend Lavender looking out of the window and sighing.

Lavender said, "Gosh, Orange, I do like cloudy weather, but I wish the sun would come out! It's been gray for days!"

Orange said, "Lavender, what are you talking about? The sun is shining, and there's not a cloud in the sky. It's a beautiful day!"

Lavender knew that its friend Orange was an optimist, but this was going a little overboard. Lavender really saw gray skies outside. "Sorry Orange, it's pretty overcast out."

Orange came to look out of the window with Lavender and said, "Umm, Lavender . . . I think this window is dirty. Let's make an essential oil glass cleaner and get it nice and clean. Then you'll see how beautiful the day is and you can come to have a picnic with me!"

So that's what they did. After they made their own all-natural glass cleaner recipe, the window was sparkling clear and streak-free, and Lavender smiled.

Do your own windows need a little cleaning, so you can get a fresh view on the world too?

Here's the all-natural glass cleaner recipe that Lavender and Orange essential oil made! I included it in my book, The Heart of Aromatherapy: An Easy-to-Use Guide for Essential Oils

"Beautiful View"Glass Cleaner Recipe with Lavender and Orange Essential Oil

  • 8 fl oz (240 ml) Water

  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Vinegar

  • 16 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

  • 16 drops Sweet Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis)

Make this glass cleaner recipe in an 8 oz (240 ml) glass (or PET plastic) spray bottle. Pour the water and vinegar into the bottle, and then add the Lavender and Orange essential oil. Shake well then spray and wipe the glass surface clean. I like to use paper towels for this. I've heard the newspaper also works great.

Oct 7 2019 - Blog - Recipe - Beautiful View - 1200 x 1200 - V1The effects of this all-natural glass cleaner recipe are due in large part to the small amount of vinegar in it. The essential oils help to neutralize any germs that are present and also to make the cleaner smell like Lavender and Orange essential oil. (Not that there's anything wrong with the scent of vinegar . . . I just prefer essential oils, and I'm betting you do too!)

Remember to shake this all-natural cleaner well each time you use it. It also works for glass surfaces other than windows, like mirrors, glass tabletops, the front window of your microwave or stove . . . anything you like!

I do suggest making a fresh bottle every few weeks since it's not made with preservatives. If you don't think you'll use a full 8 oz (240 ml) in a few weeks, go ahead and cut the recipe in half to only make 4 oz (120 ml). In that case, you'd use half a teaspoon of vinegar, and 8 drops each of Lavender and Orange essential oil.

I was inspired to write that little "story" about Lavender and Orange essential oil because that's the way I treated all of the essential oils in The Heart of Aromatherapy.
