Starting an Aromatherapy Apothecary
"I discovered Aromatherapy while exploring alternatives to pharmaceuticals as a psychiatric nurse."
That quote is from Certified Aromatherapist and RN, Lauren Andrews.
Would you believe it . . . Lauren learned so much about Aromatherapy, and developed such a love for it, that she eventually retired from being an RN to pursue a career in Aromatherapy full-time.
She now runs AroMed—an all-natural Aromatherapy apothecary in Vermont and online.
Lauren offers a LOT of products, services, and support for customers of AroMed! I just want to list some of what she offers here for you, so you can see what's possible when you decide to pursue a career in Aromatherapy. (You could create an Aromatherapy career around even ONE of these things!)
Teaches small-group workshops and classes about essential oils
Offers consultations for individuals and groups (including in the workplace)
Makes custom blends for her clients
Sells pure, organic and wildcrafted GC/MS tested essential oils
Specializes in clinically formulated blends that address different body systems
Has a line of Chakra Gemaroma roll-ons that help people rebalance (each bottle has a small gemstone in it!)
Offers a new line of CBD Aromatics—made with Vermont-sourced CBD and essential oils
If you dream of your own career in Aromatherapy . . . maybe even opening your own Aromatherapy apothecary like Lauren! . . . here are a few suggestions for getting started!
First, invest in yourself.
Make sure your own education gives you a solid foundation for helping others therapeutically.
This will go a LONG WAY to earning the confidence and trust from your clients and customers, especially those who work as healthcare professionals or are dealing with serious health issues. They will want to know that you have put time and dedication into understanding the science behind essential oils.
I suggest becoming either an Essential Oil Specialist or a Certified Aromatherapist.
You can learn about the Aromatherapy Certification Program that Lauren graduated from here.
But you don't have to wait until you graduate from the ACP to start your Aromatherapy apothecary.
You can begin deciding on the ways you would like to help people right away!
Do you want to teach short classes, or weekend workshops? Do you want to create your own lines of pre-blended products, or make custom blends for people (or both)? Do you want to help people use Aromatherapy clinically, such as in a hospice center or a clinic? What about showing other professionals, like massage therapists, how to use Aromatherapy?
There are so many options. Choose a few that excite you the most!
If you're not sure what you want to offer through your Aromatherapy business, your experience in the program will help you decide.
When you combine education, experience, and a genuine desire to help others, I think you may be surprised at how fast your Aromatherapy career can grow.
I want to encourage you . . . don't underestimate the impact that a safe, effective essential oil blend can have on someone. If you can help them with an all-natural solution to their pain, you can literally change their life.
If you are able to help someone, they will remember you.
There are a lot of new Aromatherapy businesses springing up these days. Your ability to help and your commitment to your own education will help you stand out from the crowd.
Are you inspired to move forward with your dreams?
Do you want to start with education and a group of experienced Aromatherapists to encourage you on your path? (That's what Lauren did!)
