Homemade Gym Equipment Cleaner Spray
Make a homemade gym equipment cleaner with essential oils!
Part of your post-workout ritual probably includes wiping down the gym equipment or yoga mat you used.
This is important even if you work out alone, but especially if you're part of a community, like a gym or yoga studio. In that case, it's kind of a Golden Rule!
Warm, moist, shared environments can foster bacteria growth, and so can soft, porous material, like yoga mats or the seats of exercise bikes. That's one reason athletic teams that share equipment often come down with the same illnesses.
It's a good idea to wipe down equipment and your yoga mat before and after you use it.
I've got a recipe for a homemade gym equipment cleaner that I think you will love!
You can make it in a 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottle. If you're taking this to the gym and are worried about the bottle breaking if you drop your bag, you can use PET plastic. PET plastic is known as a non-reactive plastic that doesn't leach. In cases where glass isn't ideal, PET plastic is a good choice.
"All Natural & Clean" Gym Equipment Spray
Combine:
1 oz (30 ml) water
10 drops Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon)
10 drops Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Just shake and spray away! I suggest making a fresh bottle of this blend every few weeks.
Lemon and Tea Tree are some of my favorite anti-infectious essential oils. I use them in natural cleaning products, in oral care (a drop of Tea Tree in a little water makes an excellent mouthwash), and to disinfect the air so we don't get sick from airborne microbes. They also support immunity. So while they're destroying germs on the one hand, they're bolstering your body's defenses on the other.
And these two oils have such a refreshing, invigorating aroma! They help keep your energy uplifted and your heart open. (I know that might sound strange, but the beautiful, natural aromas from plants can have a truly opening effect both physically and emotionally).
If you like using your own homemade products at the gym, you can make an "exercise kit" of your blends—a gym equipment cleaning spray, a post-workout shower gel, and a sore muscle rub (just in case you push a little too hard!).
